Tax Planning

'Tax planning' is exactly what it says - planning your affairs in a way that takes into account tax considerations, usually with a view to minimising the amount of tax you and your family need to pay.

Tax Planning Specialists

The members of DWF’s private client team specialise in planning for and mitigating tax, with a particular focus on inheritance tax and capital gains tax.

Specific tax reliefs are available to people who own a business that carries on a trade, and other reliefs apply to ‘non-domiciliaries’ i.e. people for whom the UK is not regarded as a permanent ‘home’.  We can guide you through the complexities and separate the fact from the fiction.

A holistic approach is essential.  There is no sense settling on a course of action that is designed to address one particular tax issue if it leads to a tax problem of a different nature.  In addition, planning needs to take into account the intentions and wishes of the family members, and be updated as and when circumstances (and legislation) change.

For the wealthiest families a number of professional advisers have a role to play in their affairs and we regularly work with accountants, financial advisers, bankers, surveyors and other experts in providing the best possible advice to our clients.

Once the planning has been carried out, the plans must be implemented correctly and efficiently.  We are experts at preparing the necessary legal documents.  We are also able to draw on the wider expertise available within the firm in order to deal with related company restructuring and property issues for example.
