Business law firm DWF has acted on behalf of Avro Heritage on its acquisition of the 500 acre Woodford Aerodrome site in Greater Manchester from BAE Systems.

The DWF team led by Jon Kiddle handled the purchase of the historical site and will continue to work with Avro Heritage on an ongoing basis.

Avro Heritage is a company owned jointly by Jo Bamford, the grandson of JCB founder Joseph Cyril Bamford, and Cheshire-based businessman Harry Harvey.

Woodford aerodrome was developed in 1924 and a number of historic aircraft have been built there, including the Lancaster and Vulcan bombers.

A key part of the future proposals for the site is a new heritage centre, to be developed by BAE, which will house a refurb ished Vulcan.

Avro Heritage will now develop a masterplan for the site based around the publication of the SPD (Supplementary Planning Document) which is due to be published by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council in the summer of 2012.

Commenting, Jon Kiddle, partner in the Real Estate Group at DWF, said: “This is a significant deal for the North West.  Avro Heritage have exciting plans on how the site is going to be used, plans that will both honour the site’s past and benefit the local community’s future.”

Harry Harvey from Avro Heritage, comments: “DWF’s support throughout this process has been invaluable - Jon and the team have always been on hand to provide the advice and guidance we have needed to deliver a complicated project on time against a tight deadline.”
