DWF Helps LJMU Students Prepare for the World of Work
Business law firm DWF is helping bright and talented students at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) prepare for their chosen career. Some 17 employees from the firm’s Liverpool office are coaching prospective graduates as part of the university’s innovative World of Work programme.
Managed by LJMU’s Graduate Development Centre, the programme aims to ensure that every student is equipped with the necessary skills they need to get ahead in their career. The partnership between the university and the law firm is coordinated by Simon Price, a Professional and Client Development Lawyer in DWF’s litigation team, who has previously worked with students through his innovative Modern Lawyer programme. The project is also supported by Maria Burquest, Head of DWF’s Education Sector, Carl Graham, Partner at DWF’s Liverpool office, and Tyrone Jones, Head of Values and Corporate Responsibility at DWF.
Commenting, Simon said: “In a highly competitive marketplace, graduates need more than just good qualifications to stand out from their peers. They also need to be able to show potential employers that they’ve got practical aptitude too. This is why DWF was so keen to get involved with this programme. All the volunteers from our Liverpool office have been really enthusiastic about passing on their skills, knowledge and experience to the students.”
Maria added: “LJMU’s pioneering World of Work programme is to be commended. The university is doing all it can to prepare its graduates for the real world. Mentoring the students has been a fantastic experience and it’s inspiring to be around such ambitious young adults.”
LJMU’s Director of Graduate Advancement and Employer Relations, Terry Dray, concluded: “The World of Work (WoW®) Programme at LJMU offers our students a unique opportunity to develop their employability skills and stand out from the crowd. The WoW® skills certificate has an added cachet in that it is co-delivered with many of our business partners, making it firmly rooted in the reality of the working world. We are proud to be working alongside a top law firm like DWF and are delighted that DWF staff are generously supporting the development of LJMU’s talented students”.
